Welcome to Ghana Travel
Thanks for visting Ghana Travel where we offer travel information and advice on the African country of Ghana.
The Republic of Ghana is located in West Africa and shares its borders with Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Togo and Gulf of Guinea. It is located a few degrees north of the Equator which means it has a warm climate. The east coast is warm and can be quite dry with long sandy beaches backed up by scrub land and tropical forrests and this is a very popular tourist destination with great tourist hotels, beaches, days out, shopping and much much more waiting to be explored.
This is a country that has such a huge cultural diversity that draws tourist in from the busy and sometimes hectic downtown Accra to the calmer villages in the north. Whilst visiting you will be sure to find a festival taking place for one reason or another as this is feature of Ghanaian culture and they love them. From eco-warriors to sunbathers, luxury-seekers to budget backpackers, Ghana can offer something for everyone to enjoy.
Adventures
If you’re looking for something that’s a once in a lifetime experience, then there are plenty of options for you; perhaps a home-stay with the Ewe people, or perhaps a volunteer community project would give you the opportunity you crave to truly immerse yourself in African culture. Not for those who want a relaxing holiday perhaps, but certainly for those who want to make a difference.
Safari’s and Eco-Tourism
The diverse national parks and conservation areas of Ghana offer a great opportunity to truly lose yourself in the wonderful flora and fauna which this nation of natural beauty has to offer. Safari holidays can be tailor-made, with accommodation provided onsite in many, if not most, of the national parks within Ghana. Bird watching tours can also be fascinating opportunity to turn your eyes up to the canopies and see some of the fantastical creatures which take roost there. Such holidays would be a great opportunity for any ‘twitcher’ to add some unique sightings to their lists!
Physically exerting
If you’re a keep fit freak, or simply like to be out in the great outdoors, then perhaps a cycling or walking holiday would be more to your fancy. Crossing the Lake Volta by bike can take you through rural agrarian communities, to the dramatic Togo mountain range and down the Atlantic coast; a great way to see Ghana and keep fit doing it! For those who want slightly less exertion, a walking holiday could be just what you need. A walking holiday could offer the chance to imbibe the unique Ghanaian ambience, whilst not pushing you to the physical limits which a biking holiday would.
Cultural Holidays
For those of you who want to work out your brain rather than your muscles, a range of cultural tours around Ghana could be just right for you. Anything from bead-making workshops to drumming classes to tours of Ashanti Craft Workshops are available and such activities offer any tourist a unique exposure to the cultural traditions and heritage of Ghana. You can even work with the cloth-weavers of Bonwire to make your own unique garment!
Oh, and for those of you who think holidays are for relaxing on the beach, Ghana has some of the most splendid sands of the continent, if not the world.
