Ghana Hotels
Perhaps the most important question to ask when one is considering a foreign vacation is: where do I want to stop? Ghana offers both the luxurious and the more traditional options depending upon your personal taste and, of course, your budget.
For the more discerning international traveller there is the celebrated Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, which offers the chance to enjoy high-class food, a swimming pool and conference facilities all set within 15 acres which carry a traditionally African vibe. Guest’s ability to control the air conditioning in their own room means that, if the midday heat is too much for you, you can retire to a room which can be as cool as you want it to be.
For the traveller on a budget who wants to still enjoy the Accra beaches with a degree of comfort, there are hotels such as the African Royal Beach Hotel, which offers private balconies and the expected array of swimming and dining facilities; there’s even a gym if you feel like you haven’t quite got the figure to step out on the golden Pacific sands in your swimwear just yet. Whilst prices are generally cheap across the board in Ghana, in comparison to Western tariffs, it is best to shop around an ensure you are getting a good deal; sometimes savings of up to 65% can be found by those willing to hunt around to find something.
The Ramada and Novotel offer a more western feel for those of you who want a home from home, whilst for those seeking a much more authentic and traditional African experience from your visit, there are many more budget hotels scattered across the country; however, these local budget hotels are outside the international star system, of which 1 star is the lowest, and only have the obligation to provide basic standards of sanitation and comfort.
Always check for the Hotel Licence, which is issued by the Ghana Tourist Board, which should be displayed in the lobby of all hotels. When stopping in hotels there are a couple of things to bear in mind; it is wise to stock up on bottled water from the hotel shop if it is possible to do so and, whilst tipping of hotel staff is advised, it is not considered as essential as in, say, America, and your tip should be discretionary based on the quality of service you receive.
